Post News
Meetings Attendance: Feb 7 - 5 officers & 1 member; Mar 7 - 5 officers & 2 members; Mar 21 - 7 officers & 1 member; Apr 4 - 7 officers & 3 members; and Apr 18 - 4 officers and 0 members. We would like to see more members attending our post meetings which are the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month beginning at 7 PM (1900 hours). There is no meeting if the day is a holiday.
Membership: As of 15 Apr 2011, we had 151 active members (dues were paid for 2011). We have 32 inactive members (have not paid 2011 dues) and eighteen (18) inactive members who have not paid their 2010 & 2011 dues. These 18 members will soon be dropped from our rolls by the National Headquarters. To pay, leave your money with the bartenders or mail to our post address. Our assigned goal for 2011 is 172 members, so we need 21 more renewals to reach our quota.
Special recognition:
a. Post Everlasting: A memorial service was held on 30 Apr at 1 PM for Gary Young, our Jr Past Commander. Gary will be missed and a big thank you to all our members who supported this effort and the dinner following the service. A special thank you to District 6 Chaplain Michael Hughes.
b. Awards Night was held on 16 Apr. The Commander & Adjutant presentations were:
(1) Nat'l Certificates for 50 Continuous Years to Comrades Ashford, Jones & Crader.
(2) Legion/Auxiliary Certificate of Commendation to Sac. Sheriffs Toys Pgm & Mr Edwin Figueroa.
(3) Certificate of Appreciation to Special Supporter Billy Love.
(4) Certificate of Honor to Comrade John Briseno.
(5) Legionnaire of the Year to Comrade Joe (Wild) Lobato.
c. Boys State. The post is sponsoring two boys for the 2011 session. The young men are from Futures high School in North Highlands and their names are Razumovsky (Art) Artyom and Linko (Serge) Sergey. Our alternate is Kolomyza (Leo) Leonid. All three have very fine credentials and we had a difficult time to making our final determination.
Administration Projects:
a. Initiation: We would like to know how many of our members have not received initiation rites and not awarded the Am. Legion lapel pin. Members who transferred into our post from Post 1000 or another post who did not perform this ceremony need to let us know. Our membership registry does not include this information and we would like to correct this matter. Only Comrade Solis has reported he has not received a pin.
b. Proof of Eligibility: We need a copy of your DD Form 214 or equivalent for our personnel file. Please mail/leave a copy at the post for the Adjutant's personnel file.
c. Newsletter: If anyone has experience in publishing newsletters, we could use your help. Leave a note with our bartenders (927-7628).
d. 2011-2012 Post Officers/Committee Person Nominees: Commander - Jim Dragoo (I), 1st Vice Cmdr - George Segura (I), 2nd Vice Cmdr - Jr. Bunfill (I), and Executive Committee Person (ECP) - Richard Harvey (I), Rea Cichocki (I), Jerry Lingle and Gary Orr. One ECP position have no nominations. If you would like to nominate yourself, make sure you leave a note with our bartenders before our next meeting. Elections will be during our 16 May meeting and members must be present to vote. Note: (I) indicates incumbent.
Fundraisers. Our biggest fundraiser, Fireworks Sales, will occur between 28 Jun - 4 Jul. We need volunteers to man the booth and someone(s) to perform night watchman duties. Comrade Welsh has volunteered the use of his RV with a built in sewer tank saving us the cost of a portable toilet ($100+). Booth shifts can be 2-8 hours in length (your choice) from 8 AM - 8 PM. The night watchman duty is basically 12 hours (8 PM - 8 AM) in the RV. We will have a volunteer signup sheet posted on the bulletin board the beginning of June.
Dues. Currently our dues are $30 per year, but $22.00 go to the District/California/National HQs ($0.50/$8/$13.50 respectively) for their use. That leaves only $8 of your dues available for our post's programs. We have been informed that one of the items to be resolved at the June CA State Convention is a $5 raise in the amount sent to higher HQs. We oppose this increase and are trying to find members to represent us at the convention. If you are interested, leave a note with our bartenders (927-7628).
SAL News
Meetings Attendance: No meeting to date has had a quorum. Commander Bellows decided to change meeting times to the 1st Thursday of every month at 7 PM at the post.
Membership: As of 1 Apr 2011, we had 23 active members (dues were paid for 2011). We also have 12 inactive members (have not paid 2011 dues) and 4 inactive members (have not paid 2010/2011 dues) who will be dropped from our rolls by the National Headquarters. To pay, leave your money with the bartenders or mail to our post address. We need 7 more renewals to reach our assigned goal for 2011 of 30 members.
Past Major Events: The SAL Yard Sale on 3 Apr 2011 and Rigatoni Supper on 15 Apr netted $241.50.
Dues: The current SAL dues for SQ 832 is $15 per year. Of this amount, $8 is sent to the California/National HQs for their use leaving only $7 for the squadron. Since the Post contribution to higher HQs is being considered, it stands to reason that the SAL contribution may also rise. We'll oppose any significant increase, but we wanted to give you a heads up.
Post Advisor Comments: Commander Bellows has worked hard to make money for our SAL Squadron and deserves to have other SAL members assist him in his efforts. During his term he has raised over $900 with the aid from Auxiliary and Post members; he deserves some support from his SAL members. Please help!
